Knowledge Points is a franchise providing tutoring services. It was founded in 1999 and started franchising in 2003.
Knowledge Points has a personal approach in tutoring. They have customized programs in study skills, reading, writing and math. These programs will help the students in achieving their academic goals. Each center is managed by teachers who are state certified.
They go through a comprehensive 12 weeks training before they are certified as a Director of Learning at KonwledgePoints. They attend to students from Pre-K to 12 years old who are having a hard time or falling behind in school, or simply needs more challenge. Their tutoring programs always start with the diagnostics, individualized instruction, and a motivational system.
What process do they go through at every program?
First is the testing and diagnostics which may be math diagnostic assessment, reading diagnostic assessment, or study skills diagnostic assessment. Second is customized tutoring. This is when they create and design a curriculum that perfectly fits your child. They call it a “prescription” that is specifically for your child. Third is the motivation and rewards. This includes instant success, encouragement, success points or success central, and success time.
What programs do they offer at KnowledgePoints?
For reading programs, they have the Pre-K reading program that they call “Starting Points”. In this program, they teach children about reading, phonemic awareness, writing, and spelling. The reading program for Pre-K emerging reader program called “Turning Points”. The KnowledgePoints reading program focuses on phonics, sight vocabulary, functional vocabulary, comprehension, and oral reading. Their math tutoring programs include the basic math program with basic math facts, computation, concepts, and applications.
They also have pre-algebra program, algebra program, and geometry program. The SAT/ACT test prep program offers Quicktest that is skill based and individualized program, Writeprep, and Finalprep. The study skills program include test preparation skills, test taking strategies, managing study time and routines, taking notes, remembering information, reading and interpreting visual aids, and using reference sources. The study skills program are offered for upper elementary to middle school which is fourth grade to eight grade and high school for ninth grade to twelfth grade. The writing program is focused on the six writing traits, the writing process, forms of writing, grammar, and the use of Rubrics. This is offered for fifth grade, eight grade, and twelfth grade. They also have a program on homework edge.
Costs and requirements on running a KnowledgePoints franchise
You need to have a net worth of $250,000 and a total liquid asset of at least $80,000. Expect to be investing about $89,000 to $151,000. The KnowledgePoints franchise fee is $22,500 with an on-going royalty fee of 8%. This is for a renewable 10 year term agreement. You will need one employee to run one location. They allow multi unit ownership. They do not allow absentee ownership.
What is included in the franchise package?
There will be four days training at the headquarters, two weeks at your location, and ongoing support. You will be given assistance at the grand opening and access to the internet. Expect to be attending meetings and occasional field evaluations. For marketing support, there will be ad slicks, co-op advertising, regional advertising, and national media.
